Mustangs Roll Win Streak to Three With Road Triumph at Marymount (Va.)

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Va. -- Stevenson men's soccer fired home a goal in each half as part of a 2-1 road victory at Marymount (Va.) on Saturday afternoon.

Stevenson (3-2) collected its third consecutive win, while Marymount (1-3) fell in its home opener.

  • Stevenson used another fast start to move ahead early on a Sean McDonald tally in the 11th minute. The goal came right after a Pete Wickiser shot was stopped just seconds earlier.
  • Marymount's Nicholas Vigo missed a penalty kick chance in the 26th minute for the Saints as Stevenson maintained its 1-0 advantage.
  • Sebastian Boos laced one off the crossbar in the final minute of the opening half as the Mustangs went into the intermission ahead.

  • Dylan Holy followed suit, clanging an attempt off the top bar in the early portions of the second half.
  • Jacob Chatten and Wickiser added two more shots for Stevenson before Marymount answered back with a pair of looks of its own in reponse.
  • Stevenson dictated play from there for the next several minutes, resulting in a key insurance marker for Dylan Holy, coming off a pass from Iliass Zouita in the 69th minute.
  • The Saints broke through offensively with a Leonardo Torres tally in the 72nd minute, trimming the Stevenson lead to 2-1.
  • Kristian Slaby stepped up for one final stop, coming against Carlos Varona in the 89th minute, preserving the road win.

  • After some tough luck in the scoring department to begin the season, Stevenson has found an offensive touch. The Mustangs have registered multiple goals in each of their three consecutive victories.
  • Wickiser had a team-best three shots on the day.
  • Slaby made each of his saves in the second half, including the late stop with time winding down in regulation.
  • The Mustangs racked up a 10-7 edge in second half shots.
  • McDonald found the back of the net for the second straight contest.
  • Holy, who registered an assist last time out on McDonald's goal, got into the goal-scoring department as well for the first time this season.
  • The Mustangs held a 4-1 edge in second half corner kicks.

  • Stevenson: The Mustangs return home at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, September 15, hosting Johns Hopkins at Mustang Stadium.
  • Marymount: The Saints head to Pitt-Greensburg on Monday, September 13 with kickoff coming at 4:30 PM.
