Mustangs Ousted by Lebanon Valley in Doubleheader Sweep

ANNVILLE, Pa. - The seventh-seeded Stevenson baseball team was eliminated from the 2021 MAC Commonwealth Baseball Championship in a doubleheader sweep by No. 2 seed Lebanon Valley by scores of 5-3 and 8-3 Saturday afternoon.

  • Stevenson (11-15) grabbed two runs in the top of the first inning.
  • Amani Jones worked a one-out walk and after moving to second on a wild pitch, scored on an Alex Kidwiler double.
  • Kidwiler scored on a single by Jonathan Brandt.
  • The Mustangs loaded the bases on a walk and a hit by pitch but could not tack on additional runs.
  • Lebanon Valley (19-9) tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
  • In the seventh, Sam Ferreira led off with a double and after moving to third on a single by Phil Dao, scored on a double play to give the Mustangs a 3-2 lead.
  • LVC tied the game with a one-out double followed by a triple in the eighth, then plated two more runs to take a 5-3 lead.
  • Kevin Carricato led off the ninth with a double, but ended up stranded at third.
  • Kidwiler and Ferreira each finished with two hits as the Mustangs collected seven hits in the opener.
  • Mustang starter Matt Reich allowed five hits and two runs in seven innings, striking out three.
  • Malcolm Edelin came in in relief in the eighth and took the loss.

  • Kidwiler drove in the first run of the second game, bringing in Billy McAdam with a single after McAdam led off the game with a single through the right side.
  • The Dutchmen responded with two runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead.
  • LVC nabbed single runs in the second and fifth to extend the lead to 4-1.
  • After an Amani Jones single to lead off the sixth, a Kidwiler double made it 4-2.
  • With two away, a single by Anthony Zunno brought home Kevin Murray Jr. and pulled the Mustangs within one, 4-3.
  • The hosts plated two runs in the sixth and eighth innings to account for the final.
  • Kidwiler had two of Stevenson's eight hits as the Mustangs were outhit 12-8.
  • Mustang starter Patrick Sullivan allowed nine hits and five earned runs in six innings.

  • Kidwiler finished the season and his career with a six-game hit streak.
  • Murray stole a base in the nightcap to extend his program record to 75 career stolen bases.
