Mustangs Wrap Up Regular Season at Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. - The Stevenson University baseball team wrapped up the regular season by dropping a pair of MAC Commonwealth contests at Lebanon Valley Sunday afternoon.  The Dutchmen recorded a 6-2 win in the opening game, then posted a 17-9 win in the nightcap.

  • Stevenson (11-13, 7-9 MAC Commonwealth) got on the board in the top of the first as a Billy McAdam double brought in Alex Kidwiler, who reached on a two-out single.
  • Lebanon Valley (17-9, 17-6) tied the game with a run in the bottom half of the opening frame.
  • Sam Ferreira led off the second with a single and after moving to second on a wild pitch, scored on a Kevin Carricato single.
  • LVC collected four hits and four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-2 lead.  The Dutchmen then tacked on a run in the sixth.
  • In the top of the seventh, the Mustangs loaded the bases with two outs as Carricato singled, Amani Jones was hit by a pitch and Kevin Murray Jr. walked.
  • A flyout ended the game.
  • Ferreira and Carricato each totaled two hits as the Mustangs were outhit 8-7.
  • Matt Reich went the first five innings and surrendered five runs while striking out four.

  • After LVC put up a three-spot in the first, the Mustangs got a run back in the second when Ferreira scored from third with the bases loaded on a squeeze bunt by Will Mesa.
  • The Dutchmen scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth after plating a run in the second to go up 8-1.
  • Stevenson scored four times in the fifth to cut the gap to 8-5.
  • McAdam and Ferreira each had RBI singles in the frame as the Mustangs collected five hits and took advantage of three Lebanon Valley errors.
  • The hosts put up crooked numbers in each of the next three innings, plating two in the fifth, four in the sixth and three in the seventh.
  • The Mustangs picked up two runs in the sixth, with Kidwiler and Murray each delivering RBI singles.
  • Liam Elliffe and Michael Smell each drove in runs with base hits in the eighth to account for the final.
  • Stevenson collected 12 hits in the nightcap with Jones, Murray, Kidwiler and Ferreira each recording a pair.
  • Mustang starter Jake Vanko allowed four runs (three earned) and struck out three over the first three innings.

  • Stevenson has earned the No. 7 seed in the nine-team MAC Commonwealth Championship and will meet Lebanon Valley, the No. 2 seed, again next weekend.
  • This year's championship consists of a three-game series in each round, with LVC hosting a doubleheader on Saturday, and Stevenson hosting the if-necessary game on Sunday.
  • All games will be nine innings, and the Dutchmen will bat last in all three potential games.
