Mustangs Slowed Twice at Messiah

GRANTHAM, Pa. - Host Messiah swept a MAC Commonwealth baseball doubleheader from Stevenson University Thursday afternoon at Starry Baseball Field.  The Falcons walked off with a 4-3, nine-inning win in the opener then blanked the Mustangs 4-0 in the nightcap.

  • Stevenson (11-9, 7-5 MAC Commonwealth) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when an Amani Jones single brought in Kevin Carricato.
  • Messiah (12-14-1, 10-13-1) plated two runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead.
  • Alex Kidwiler belted his sixth home run of the season with one out and no one on in the third to the the game 2-2.
  • Nate Perkins put the Mustangs on top 3-2 in the fourth when his single to center plated Billy McAdam, who led off with a single and moved to third with two stolen bases.
  • In the bottom of the seventh of the game scheduled for seven innings the first two Messiah batters struck out before back-to-back walks.
  • A bloop single to center brought in the game-tying run and moved the winning run to third.  After an intentional walk to load the bases, Malcolm Edelin, who came in after the two walks, recorded a strikeout to send the game to extras.
  • Messiah led off the ninth with a triple, with a single up the middle bringing in the winning run.
  • Kevin Murray Jr. finished with three hits for Stevenson as the Mustangs outhit Messiah 8-7.
  • Mustang starter Patrick Sullivan went six innings and allowed four hits and two runs with a strikeout.

  • Messiah took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and tacked on single runs in the fourth and sixth innings.
  • McAdam had two of Stevenson's five hits in the game as the Mustangs didn't get a runner into scoring position until the seventh.
  • Sullivan, Phil Dao and Liam Elliffe had the other Mustang hits.
  • In the seventh McAdam worked a two out walk and moved to third on Sullivan's single to right.
  • Messiah outhit Stevenson 7-5 and took advantage of a pair of Mustang errors.
  • Brady Power struck out four in four innings as the Stevenson starter, allowing six hits and three runs.

  • Stevenson is slated for its final series of the regular season this weekend against Lebanon Valley.  The Mustangs host the Dutchmen for a doubleheader at noon Saturday at Sugar Field before a Sunday twinbill at LVC.
