STEVENSON, Md. - The Stevenson University baseball team pounded out 24 hits and got two strong pitching performances as it opened its season with a non-conference doubleheader sweep of Eastern Saturday at Sugar Field.  The Mustangs blanked the Eagles 15-0 in the opener, then posted a 13-3 win in game two.

• Stevenson (2-0) jumped on Eastern (0-2) with four runs in the bottom of the first.
• Kevin Murray Jr. worked a leadoff walk, moved to third on a pair of groundouts and scored when Sam Ferreira reached on an error.
• Nate Perkins hit an RBI single to make it 2-0, then two more runs scored on another error.
• Alex Kidwiler made it 5-0 with an RBI double to left-center in the fourth that plated Amani Jones.
• First-year Jones belted a solo home run with two gone in the seventh to right-center.
• After plating one run in the sixth and two in the seventh, the Mustangs erupted for a seven-run eighth.
• Stevenson sent 11 men to the plate and had three hits, including a two-run single by Ferreira, and took advantage of four walks issued by Eastern pitchers and a hit batter.
• Murray and Kidwiler each had three hits in the opener, with Murray, Ferreira and Jones each driving in a pair.
• Stevenson outhit Eastern 12-6.
• Murray, Kidwiler and Billy McAdam each had stolen bases.
• Sam Downs allowed two hits and no runs while striking out seven with one walk in four innings
• Patrick Sullivan recorded the victory with five shutout innings of relief, scattering four hits and fanning six with one walk.

• Stevenson struck again in the bottom of the first as a two-run double by Ferreira plated Kidwiler and McAdam.
• Eastern tied the game by pushing across two runs in the top of the second.
• The Mustangs scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings before scoring twice in the sixth and seven times in the seventh.
• In the fourth, a Murray double scored Sullivan, who reached when he was hit by a pitch.
• In the fifth, McAdam worked a leadoff walk, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sac bunt by Tommy Holcomb.
• Trent Smoot led off the sixth with a single and scored on a Kidwiler sacrifice.  Jones doubled after Smoot's single and came home on a McAdam double.
• The seventh featured a Smoot RBI double, an RBI triple by Jones and a three-run single by Ferreira.
• Jones went 3-3 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored in the nightcap, falling a home run shy of the cycle.
• Ferreira finished 3-5 with two doubles, five runs driven in and a run scored.
• Murray and Smoot finished with two hits apiece.
• Kidwiler swiped three bases in game two, while McAdam had a pair of thefts.
• Stevenson outhit the Eagles 12-7.
• Matt Reich tossed seven innings and allowed three runs (one earned) and struck out eight with one walk in seven innings to earn the victory.
• Malcolm Edelin struck out three in two innings of shutout relief.

• Jones finished the doubleheader 6-7 with two walks (.889 OBP), a double, triple and home run and scored five runs while driving in three.
• Ferreira went 4-8 with seven RBI, while Kidwiler was 3-6.
• Murray went 5-10 with four RBI and four runs scored out of the leadoff spot.
• Kidwiler recorded his 100th career hit in the opener, as he entered Saturday with 99 career hits.

• Stevenson travels to Widener next Saturday for a noon non-conference doubleheader.
• The Mustangs open MAC Commonwealth play the following weekend, taking on Albright in a four-game weekend series that begins Saturday, March 20 with a noon twinbill at Sugar Field.
