Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson men's soccer team was held to just eight shots as the Mustangs fell to St. Mary's (Md.) in the home opener, 2-0, Tuesday evening at Mustang Stadium. It was the first home game for the Mustangs in 486 days.
- In the fourth minute, first year Edson DeMata intercepted a pass from the goaltender and was one-on-one with keeper but sent his shot wide right of the net.
- At the 12:00 mark, sophomore Kristian Slaby saw his first action, making a save on a shot from outside the box.
- In the 18th minute, Slaby saved a shot on a free kick before making another save following a corner kick.
- DeMata tried to beat Seahawks (2-1) goaltender, Liam Delone-Bellsey, on the near post on a free kick but Delone-Bellsey was there for the stop.
- Off a free kick, the visitors sent a header attempt wide of the net.
- Early in the half, Thomas Williamson sailed a shot just over the crossbar for the visitors best scoring attempt of the game.
- In the 62nd minutes, junior Matt Stellitano came out for a slide tackle in the box but was whistled for the foul, leading to a penalty kick goal by Daniel Folson.
- The Mustangs (1-1) had one of their best scoring opportunities in the 64th minute as DeMata's cross just missed the feet of junior Iliass Zouita who was crashing the net.
- Senior CJ Beteta kept the hosts deficit at one as he recorded a team save after junior Matt Stellitano was out of the net.
- St. Mary's (Md.) added a second goal in the 87th minute as Isaac Ekobo fired a shot from the top of the box on a pass in from Zack Glime.
- St. Mary's (Md.) outshot Stevenson, 20-8, including, 15-5, in the second half.
- The Seahawks also held a, 7-3, edge in corner kicks, including, 5-2, in the second half.
- Slaby recorded three saves in the first half while Stellitano had a pair in the final 45 minutes.
- DeMata and Zouita each had a team-high three shots.
- Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, April 10 when the Mustangs travel to Washington (Md.) beginning at 4:00 p.m.
- The Mustang are back at Mustang Stadium on Thursday, April 22 when the team hosts Lancaster Bible with opening kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
