Mustangs Late Push Not Enough at Albright

Box Score

READING, Pa. -- Stevenson women's soccer allowed a goal in each half, falling 2-1 to Albright in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) 4/5 Play-In Game on Tuesday night.

Albright (10-7-2) scored both goals off corner chances, now advancing to face top-seeded Messiah on Thursday, November 4. Meanwhile, Stevenson sees its conference tournament run come to an end after getting on the board with just over one minute remaining, falling to 5-9-5.

  • Stevenson dribbled into the middle as Kierra McGee lifted a chance high in the ninth minute, responding to a pair of earlier looks for Albright.
  • Both sides traded fouls in the midfield area for the next several minutes, unable to string together any viable scoring looks.
  • The Mustangs closed off two long runs for Albright as the back line cleared the ball aside.
  • Allison Arters ended a long stretch of game action without a shot, turning from the left side and sending a low attempt into the arms of Albright keeper McKenna Levan in the 37th minute.
  • Off a bad bounce, Albright earned a corner with less than one minute remaining in the frame, making the most of it by stuffing home a bouncing ball in the box for a 1-0 lead. Carleigh Molanaro found the back of the next through traffic with just under 20 seconds left in the period as Albright took the lead and momentum into the intermission.

  • Off the rush, Keegan Caffrey made a lunging save on Alexis Baez in the 54th minute.
  • Kennedy Cash headed a ball toward the target following a long set-piece ball from Michelle Mesquita in the 57th minute.
  • Caffrey stayed square to another look in front after a back-post free kick found the waiting foot of Diza Hasanaj on the right side in the 61st minute.
  • After a scramble in front, Baez looped one toward the cage that was knocked aside by the Stevenson defense for a team save in the 64th minute.
  • Shortly after, on the ensuing corner, Albright notched an insurance tally as Gabrielle Rhoads cashed in for a 2-0 edge in the 64th minute.
  • The Lions maintained the pressure as Stevenson struggled to generate much in the attacking zone.
  • Stevenson regathered the ball off an Albright free kick as Arters probed in for a low shot, forcing a diving save in the 72nd minute.
  • Olivia Stephen took a touch to the middle and looped a shot just wide in the 77th minute as Stevenson looked to break through.
  • McGee trimmed the Stevenson deficit in half at 2-1 as McGee found the back of the net in the 89th minute.

  • The first half saw around a 28-minute stretch without a shot as neither team threatened in the midfield.
  • McGee posted her second goal of the season with the late tally.
  • Stevenson dropped a narrow 1-0 decision to Albright in the team's lone regular season meeting on October 16 in Reading.
  • In total, Albright held a 10-9 edge in shots.
  • Caffrey finished with three saves, while Arters and Cash had two shots each.
