Box Score YORK, Pa. -- With goals coming from three different scorers, Stevenson men's soccer rolled to a 3-0 postseason road victory against York (Pa.) on Monday night in the Middle Atlantic Commonwealth Play-In Game at Graham Field.
Stevenson (9-9-2) bounced back from four consecutive losses heading into the postseason as the five seed, knocking off fourth-seeded York (Pa.) (6-9-3) with three goals in the opening half. The Mustangs will continue their postseason run against top-seeded Messiah on Wednesday, November 3 with the MAC Semifinals at Shoemaker Field.
Edson DeMata, Iliass Zouita and Jacob Chatten all found the back of the net for the Mustangs in the first half.
- Off a run that nearly connected, the Spartans ripped an early chance off the foot of Brett Joyner in the third minute.
- Stevenson one-touched a ball back into the offensive fourth from the midfield to the waiting DeMata, who stepped in and looped a ball into the right portion of the net for a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute.
- The Mustangs maintained a high level of energy over the next several minutes, including a Zouita chance from inside the 18-yard box in the 14th minute.
- Off a strong throw-in near the box, Stevenson sent a header chance at the goal from Logan Ruth in the 20th minute.
- The Mustangs doubled the advantage off a bouncing ball in the midfield after regaining possession. Jack Accorsi slotted a slick pass on the ground to Zouita, who sidestepped a York defender and buried a shot to the bottom right corner of the cage for a 2-0 edge in the 24th minute.
- Stevenson sent four fresh substitutions on in the 32nd minute. The Mustangs registered another dangerous scoring chance as Jason Kahan forced a save from Spartan keeper Brady Bixler before Chatten smoked a chance off the crossbar.
- The Mustangs increased the lead to 3-0 as Chatten finished off a chance in the 39th minute off an assist for Diego Gomez.
- Off a foul just outside the box, Stevenson had a set piece from the middle of the field as Angel Zelaya pushed a chance high.
- Following a second corner chance, Stevenson was able to clear the ball aside as York attempted to cross the ball in the box.
- The Spartans found some possession as the Mustangs were able to insulate senior keeper Matt Stellitano.
- Stellitano made a strong save in the 62nd minute before the Mustangs blocked the rebound attempt.
- Things got chippy as time winded down as neither side finished off any other scoring chances.
- DeMata Ribero cashed in on his third goal of the 2021 season, while Zouita also added his third of the season and second in as many games.
- Chatten recorded his first collegiate goal, pushing the Mustangs ahead 3-0 in the opening half.
