Mustangs Overpowered by No. 4 Messiah

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Fourth-ranked Messiah put its talent on full display, handing Stevenson men's soccer its first loss in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth play, as the Falcons racked up a 7-0 decision on Tuesday night at Mustang Stadium. 

Stevenson (8-6-2, 4-1-0 MAC Commonwealth) had picked up a point in five straight games in the month of October, but fell behind in the ninth minute as Messiah (12-0-2, 6-0-0 MAC Commonwealth) kept its unbeaten record intact. 

  • Stevenson had a brief stint of early possession as Pete Wickiser fluttered a shot wide before Messiah took over. 
  • Off a deflection and second chance, the Falcons got on the board in the ninth minute for the 1-0 edge. 
  • Trevor Goodling cashed in off a cross for the visitors just about two minutes later, doubling the Falcons advantage. 

  • Messiah racked up five goals in the second half, including two just under two minutes apart, to add to its sizable lead. 
  • Both sides went to their bench in the second half, using multiple players all across the lineup. 

  • Stevenson collected three first half shots, unable to place any on frame throughout the evening. 
  • Messiah extends its all-time series lead to 10-0-1, matching its largest margin of victory. 
  • Matt Stellitano made his first appearance between the pipes for the Mustangs since suffering an injury in the season opener, playing the final 20 minutes. 
  • Matt McDonald and Stefan Leitzel combined for four of the Falcons' five second half goals, netting two each. 
  • Stevenson endured its first regulation loss since September 29. 

  • Stevenson: The Mustangs are back home for an important matchup as it relates to conference seeding, hosting Alvernia to cap a Homecoming tripleheader on Saturday, October 23 at 7:30 PM. 
  • Messiah: The Falcons are back home, hosting Widener on Saturday, October 23 at 5:00 PM.
