FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Stevenson University women's beach volleyball team went 1-1 in a pair of 3-2 decisions on the second day of the Principia Beach Bash at Empower Sports Club on Saturday. The Mustangs edged Park University 3-2, then were defeated 3-2 by Carson-Newman in a match that saw all five contests go three sets.
In the opener against the Pirates, Stevenson (2-2) took down wins in the top three flights. At No. 1, Katie Leftridge and Shannon Baily posted a 21-14, 21-9 triumph. Trang Christensen and Piper Connors registered a 21-12, 21-18 victory, while at No. 3, Darian Hileman and Emily Pellini were 21-14, 22-20 winners.
At No. 5, Taylor Jones and Kayla Vaeth nearly forced a third set but fell 21-15, 27-25.
Against the Eagles, Leftridge and Baily rallied for a 15-21, 21-17, 15-6 win at No. 1, while Christensen and Connors held off their opponents 21-19, 15-21, 15-13 at No. 2.
The three Mustang losses also all went three sets. At No. 3, Hileman and Connors fell 18-21, 21-13, 15-11, while Grace Chaffee and Lizi Cudal dropped a 19-21, 21-12, 15-6 decision. Jones and Vaeth fell 10-21, 21-16, 18-16 at No. 5.
Stevenson returns to action Sunday, March 15 at Palm Beach Atlantic, taking on Ave Maria as well as the host Sailfish.
