Stellitano Records Career-High 10 Saves in Mustangs Scoreless Draw

YORK, Pa. - Stevenson men's soccer sophomore Matt Stellitano finished with a career-high 10 saves but neither team found the back of the net as the Mustangs and York (Pa.) finished in a 0-0 double overtime tie Wednesday afternoon at Graham Field.

  • The hosts put on the early pressure as a header just 38 seconds into the contest went wide.
  • Stevenson (2-0-1) responded with a pair of shots in the opening three minutes but both shots were high of the frame.
  • Junior Jay Smith recorded the first shot on goal in the 17th minute before Stellitano made his first save a minute later.
  • In the 33rd minute, the Spartans (2-0-1) went down a player after Barak Amige drew his second yellow card.
  • Stellitano made five saves in the opening half, including one in the 43rd minute.

  • In the 59th minute, the visitors had back-to-back chances as a header by junior Tariq Lee was blocked and a shot by DR Medtart went wide.
  • Down the other end, York (Pa.) had a pair of shots, including one that hit the crossbar and the other saved by Stellitano.
  • The Spartans had a breakaway opportunity in the 79th minute but the defensive pressure by junior Jevan Leyh caused Zion Friday's shot to hit off the post.
  • Down the other end, sophomore Sean McDonald got into the box but his left footed shot was right to keeper Billy Bridegum.
  • In the final 30 seconds of regulation, senior Nick Ellis had a shot blocked out for a corner kick but the visitors did not get another shot off.

  • The hosts had the only shot on net in the first overtime, coming in the last minute, but Stellitano made the stop.
  • With four minutes left in the second overtime, Medtart played a through ball to Smith but he sent his shot wide right.
  • Stellitano made a point blank save with 1:30 left on a shot just outside the six-yard box.
  • With 13.4 seconds remaining, the Mustangs were awarded a free kick with time stopped due to a yellow card on the hosts for wasting time. Medtart played the ball to the back post to McDonald who headed on frame but at Bridegum.

  • Stevenson outshot York (Pa.), 25-22, including 11-4 in the second half.
  • The Spartans held a 6-3 edge in corner kick, including two corner kicks in the second overtime.
  • Smith finished with a team-high six shots while Lee had four.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, September 7 when the Mustangs travel to Shenandoah for a non-conference contest beginning at 2:00 p.m.
  • The Mustangs return home on Wednesday, September 11 when the team hosts a non-conference contest versus Gettysburg beginning at 7:00 p.m.
