Mustangs Drop Non-Conference Contest at St. Mary's (Md.)

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Stevenson men's soccer team outshot St. Mary's (Md.), 13-11, but the host Seahawks find the back of the net four times, including twice in the opening 14 minutes, en route to a 4-1 non-conference victory Saturday afternoon at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium.

  • The Seahawks (5-0-0) recorded the first shot of the game in the ninth minute as Roshawn Panton found the back of the net to give the hosts an early lead.
  • On his next shot, Panton doubled St. Mary's (Md.) lead with his second unassisted tally.
  • After falling behind two goals in the opening 13:20, the Mustangs (3-2-1) recorded the next three shots, including a shot on net by sophomore Alex Morales.
  • In the 25th minute, the Stevenson defense kept its deficit at two goals after recording a team save.
  • The visitors got on the board as junior Jay Smith scored on an assist from senior DR Medtart.
  • With 1:25 remaining in the half, the Seahawks extended their lead back to two goals on a score by Khalid Balogun.

  • The Mustangs came out of halftime with the first two shots of the second half but shots by Smith and senior Nick Ellis both went wide.
  • St. Mary's (Md.) pushed their lead to, 4-1, with its fourth unassisted goal of the day in the 66th minute.
  • Ellis answered with a shot on net but Patrick Paolini came up with the save.
  • Smith nearly had his second goal of the game as his shot off a corner kick was on target but was saved by Paolini.

  • Stevenson outshot St. Mary's (Md.), 13-11, including 6-4 in the second half.
  • The Seahawks held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks with the Mustangs recording the lone corner kick of the second half.
  • Freshman Kristian Slaby saw his first collegiate action, recording one save in 40 minutes of play.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Wednesday, September 18 when the Mustangs travel to Delaware Valley for a non-conference contest beginning at 4:00 p.m.
  • The Mustangs return home on Saturday, September 21 when the team hosts 19th-ranked Stevens in non-conference play beginning at 7:00 p.m.
