Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Gettysburg scored two unanswered goals, including the game-winning goal with 5:09 remaining in regulation, as the Stevenson men's soccer team fell for the first time this season, dropping a 3-2 non-conference decision Wednesday evening at Mustang Stadium.
- In the fourth minute, sophomore goalkeeper Matt Stellitano played a long free kick into the hosts offensive zone for junior Tariq Lee who just got a foot to it for the first shot of the game.
- The Bullets (2-2-0) had their first look of the game in the 10th minute as Oladayo Thomas got a foot on a cross into the box before the Mustangs defense cleared the lose ball away.
- Gettysburg took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute following its second corner kick of the game. Thomas had an initial header that hit off the crossbar before Brandon Raudenbush headed in the rebound.
- Just 2:52 later, the Mustangs (3-1-1) knotted the game at 1-1 as junior Jay Smith volleyed a ball into the box for classmate Pete Wickiser who beat the goalkeeper to the far left post.
- The Bullets fired their second shot of the game off the crossbar as a free kick by Precious Ozoh from 25 yards out hit the top of the frame and out of play.
- Wickiser nearly had his second goal of the game as he got his feet free at the top of the box that had to be knocked away by a diving Thomas Keane.
- The hosts took a 2-1 lead in the 36th minute as sophomore Alex Morales finished a through ball from classmate Brian Ventura to the far right post.
- In the 40th minute, junior Dylan Holy nearly headed in a corner kick but Keane just got a hand to the ball and punched it over the crossbar.
- In the opening few minutes, senior Nick Ellis was able to jab at the ball sitting on the six-yard box but Keane quickly met the ball for the save.
- The visitors recorded a pair of shots on net in the opening 10 minutes of the game by Stellitano was able to punch both aside.
- The Bullets had a shot in the box blocked out for a corner kick, which led the game-tying goal by Connor Fife who headed down a shot that bounced over an outstretched Stellitano.
- In the 85th minute, a corner kick by Sam Lerman went over the head of his teammate and through the hands of Stellitano before bending into the goal to give Gettysburg a 3-2 lead.
- The Mustangs had a free kick from just inside midfield with just under three minutes remaining and the visitors nearly scored on themselves before another Bullet headed it away.
- Gettysburg outshot Stevenson, 18-10 and held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
- Both goalkeepers finished the game with six saves, with Stellitano recording three in each half.
- It was the first goals of the season for both Wickiser and Morales while Smith recorded his team leading third assist of the year.
- Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, September 14 when the Mustangs travel to St. Mary's (Md.) for a non-conference contest beginning at 4:00 p.m.
- The Mustangs return home on Saturday, September 21 when the team hosts 19th-ranked Stevenson in non-conference play beginning at 7:00 p.m.
