GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Stevenson baseball team earned a split with conference-leading Arcadia University on Saturday afternoon at Skip Wilson Field.  In game one, the Mustangs fell behind 10-0, before rallying to 10-6 but not being able to get any closer.  Then, in the second contest Stevenson led from start to finish getting a strong effor on the mound from junior Tyler Graham and freshman Sam Downs en route to a 5-1 victory.

• Arcadia (16-7, 9-1 MAC Commonwealth) got on the board first against senior starter James Wiercinski as a one-out walk to Dylan Towey followed by a single up the box for Sean Carew sent Phil Pierfy to the plate.
• He gave the Knights a 2-0 lead with a double to deep right-field driving in both runners.
• Wiercinski got the next two hitters on a fly out to center and a popup on the infield.
• Stevenson (12-12, 5-5 MAC Commonwealth) got a man on base in the second thanks to a one-out hit for sophomore Thomas Holcomb.  He would get to third on a sac bunt and a stolen base, but senior Anthony Millington popped out to home pitcher Jeremy Sabathne to end the threat.
• The hosts totaled six runs in the home-half of the frame as Bryan Gillen plated one by reaching on an error, Towey came up with an RBI single, which was followed by Pierfy's second two-run double of the game, and Zak Thomas got two men home when he reached on a dropped flyball to left making it 8-0 through two.   
• A lead-off two-bagger for junior Alex Kidwiler looked to get a rally going for the visitors in the fourth.
• However, with one out and a man at third Holcomb appeared to have delivered a sac fly but Kidwiler was deemed to have left early and was called out on appeal to leave the score the same.
• Towey added one for more the home side in the bottom half with a solo home run off of sophomore reliever Ryan Smith, before the Knights got one more in the home fifth when a double-steal allowed Matt Ernst to race home for the 10-0 advantage.
• The Mustangs finally got runs against Sabathne in the sixth as singles for seniors Zachary DeLong and Jonathan Lugo along with a knock for Kidwiler loaded the bags with no outs for Holcomb.
• He earned an RBI the hard way as he was hit by a pitch, the next man up was senior pinch-hitter Connor Wasilnak who reached on a fielder's choice allowing another man to score.  
• That brought Millington to the dish and he made it 10-3 with an RBI groundout to first. 
• An RBI infield single for sophomore Sam Ferreira cut it to 10-4 in the seventh with two gone.
• With men on the corners, the Mustangs continued to fight as Holcomb plated two on a dropped fly by the centerfielder.
• Wasilnak grounded out to second to end the game at 10-6.
• W: Jeremy Sabathne (5-1), L: James Wiercinski (3-1)
• Wiercinski suffered his first loss of the year going two innings allowing eight runs (five earned) on just five hits and one strikeout.
• Kidwiler was 3-4 with two doubles and two runs scored.
• Junior Kevin Murray Jr. added two hits.
• Ferreira, Holcomb, Wasilnak, and Millington accounted for the RBIs.
• Sabathne earned the win with six innings of seven-hit, three-run baseball while fanning five. 
• Towey and Pierfy led the attack combining to go 4-7 at the dish with six RBIs and four runs scored.  

• After a scoreless first two innings, Stevenson (13-12, 6-5 MAC Commonwealth) as a pair of walks and a single by senior Matthew Kerber loaded the bases for Kidwiler.
• He gave the visitors a 1-0 lead by reaching on a fielder's choice scoring sophomore Nate Perkins who had walked.  
• Moore and DeLong were then retired to end the threat.
• Arcadia (16-8, 9-2 MAC Commonwealth) could not manage anything against Graham as he recorded a pair of fly outs and a strikeout to complete the shutdown frame.
• The Mustangs added on in the fourth thanks to a Holcomb double to lead things off which was followed two batters later by an RBI single for Lugo for the 2-0 edge.
• In the home half, the Knights cut into the deficit with Pierfy coming home on a fielder's choice off the stick of Thomas to make it 2-1.  He was then forced out to retire the side on the next at-bat when pinch hitter Anthony Zupito was safe on a fielder's choice.
• Murray and Kidwiler singled to start the fifth and Kidwiler went to second on a wild pitch to put two in scoring position for Moore.
• He extended the margin to 3-1 with a sacrifice fly to center. 
• That ended the afternoon for starter Tyler Showers as Owen Margolis took over and was greeted with the second sac fly of the frame plating Kidwiler for a 4-1 lead.
• Downs replaced Graham on the hill and gave up a single to Nick Ponente, but got a double-play and a fly out from Towey to end the fifth.
• Stevenson capped off the scoring for the game when DeLong reached on a fielder's choice in the final frame allowing Murray to come in after he had a single to right center.
• Downs let two men reach in the home seventh but got Towey to watch strike three to end the game.

• Graham got the win with four innings of three-hit pitching allowing one run (unearned).
• Downs picked up the save going three frames letting up three hits and fanning two.
• Holcomb was 3-4 with a double and a run scored.
• Kerber and Murray each added a pair of hits.
• Showers took the loss going 4.1 innings on seven hits, four runs and four K's.
• Pierfy was the only man with multiple hits for the Knights.

• The win in game two snapped a two-game skid for the Mustangs.
• Graham remains perfect on the season with a 3-0 record and a 2.00 ERA.
• Murray had four hits on the day.
• Downs earned his first save as a Mustang.

• Stevenson will wrap up their three-game MAC Commonwealth weekend series against Arcadia with a single nine-inning contest tomorrow, Sunday, April 7 at 1pm over at Sugar Field on the Greenspring Campus.
