FORT WAYNE, Ind. -The Stevenson University women's volleyball team split on the first day of the Principia Invitational at Empowered Sports Club. The Mustangs fell to Division I Morehead State 4-1 before edging Carson-Newman 3-2 in the nightcap.
Against the Eagles, Trang Christensen and Katie Leftridge picked up a 21-11,21-17 win at No. 1. Darian Hileman and Piper Connors were 21-14, 21-14 winners at No. 2, while at No. 5 Mackenzie Blevins and Emily Pellini prevailed 21-18, 21-19.
The two Mustang losses were both in three sets. At No. 3 Caroline Dangel and Emily Castro dropped a 21-17, 19-21, 15-9 decision, while at No. 4, Grace Chaffee and Lizi Cudal fell 12-21, 21-17, 16-14.
Victoria Prokic and Julie Nightwine prevailed 21-6, 21-13 in the exhibition match.
In the opener, freshmen Blevins and Pellini captured their collegiate debut, winning 21-16, 21-17.
Hileman and Connors took the No. 2 match to three sets before falling 19-21, 21-13, 15-6. Dangel and Castro also went three, with Morehead State winning 21-7, 17-21, 15-11.
Stevenson is back in action Saturday, facing Principia at 11:30 am and Tusculum at 4 pm.
