Gibson Nets Goal in Mustangs Loss Versus Endicott

REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson women's ice hockey sophomore Ally Gibson netted her third goal of the season but Endicott, the nation's best power play unit, scored three times en route to a 5-1 non-conference victory Sunday afternoon at Reisterstown Sportsplex.

  • The Gulls (10-1-0) got on the board at the 9:34 mark as Jacy Kuhlman scored an unassisted goal after a Stevenson turnover in the Endicott offensive zone.
  • Just 38 seconds later, Endicott earned the game's first power play but it last just 23 seconds as the Gulls were whistled for their first penalty.
  • Junior Trinity Barcless had the Mustangs (4-5-2) lone shot on their 23-second power play.
  • The Mustangs had a full two-minute power play but shots by Barcless and Gibson were both saved by Alyssa Peterson.
  • In the final seconds of the period, Barcless had a breakaway but Peterson made a point blank save to keep the visitors lead at one.

  • The Mustangs went on their third power play just 1:06 into the period yet it was the Gulls with the lone shot.
  • Endicott converted on its second power play attempt of the contest as Jillian Gibbs scored on assists from Jade Meier and Michaela McNamara.
  • At the 8:26 mark, Stevenson went on the power play but it lasted only 52 seconds before the Mustangs were whistled for a penalty.
  • On the penalty kill, freshman Karly Aguirre had a shorthanded opportunity that hit off the crossbar on a shot in close.
  • With the Mustangs completing a line change, sophomore Tea Ferrara pressured the Gulls into a bad pass back before Gibson fired a one-timer on the loose puck that trickled past Peterson. 

  • Stevenson started the third period having to kill of the remaining 20 second of a penalty, which the Mustangs did after Ferrara won the opening face-off.
  • The Mustangs went back on the penalty kill at the 4:43 mark and successfully killed off the two minutes behind seven saves from senior Annie Smyth-Hammond.
  • On the next power play by the Gulls, Gibbs connected once again from Meier and McNamara to push the visitor's lead to 3-1 with 7:28 remaining.
  • Endicott added another two goals over the next 3:04, including the third goal of the game by Gibbs.

  • Endicott outshot Stevenson, 49-27, including 24-9 in the third period.
  • The Mustangs won 48 of the 72 face-offs, including a game-high 22 by Ferrara.
  • Senior Jordan Pirrello won 18 of her 26 face-offs.
  • The Gulls finished 3-for-7 on the power play while the Mustangs went 0-for-5.
  • Smyth-Hammond finished with a season-high 42 saves and is just 79 from 1,000 career saves.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Sunday, January 12 when the Mustangs travel to King's for a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) contest beginning at 5:00 p.m.
