Fourth-Seeded Mustangs Advance to Semifinals With 3-0 Victory Over LVC

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The fourth-seeded Stevenson men's soccer team had three different goal scorers as the Mustangs defeated fifth-seeded Lebanon Valley, 3-0, in the MAC Commonwealth First Round contest Monday evening at Mustang Stadium.

  • The visitors recorded the first shot of the game in the second minute as junior CJ Beteta blocked a shot after a cross into the box.
  • Stevenson (12-5-3) got its first shot in the sixth minute as freshman Chris Gonzales flicked a header on net off a long throw-in by junior Dylan Holy.
  • In the eighth minute, the Mustangs earned the first corner kick of the game that was flcked by a Dutchmen defender before sophomore Sean McDonald headed back into the six-yard box to junior Tariq Lee who headed it past Sean Quirk.
  • McDonald was able to hit a one-timer on a bouncing ball in the box but his hard shot was right into the body of Quirk.
  • The Mustangs took a 2-0 lead in the 17th minute as senior Nick Ellis played a ball to McDonald from the endline who hit a one-time over to junior Pete Wickiser on the back post. Wickiser played a one-timer out of the year, sending the ball into the back of the net.
  • In the 34th minute, sophomore Brian Ventura got a quick turnaround shot on net after senior DR Medtart served in a free kick.
  • Stevenson took a 3-0 lead in the 36th minute as junior Jay Smith knocked in a rebound after a shot by Owen Mostoller hit off the left post.
  • The Mustangs held possession for 64 percent of the time in the opening half.

  • Stevenson had the first three shots of thet half, including a shot on net by Medtart.
  • In the 66th minute, Smith had a shot that was initialled saved by Quirk but started bouncing towards the goal line before Lucas Teshome cleared it off the line.
  • The Dutchmen recorded their second shot on net of the half in the 76th minute but it was easily saved by sophomore Matt Stellitano.
  • In the 84th minute, Zach Creighton fired a shot from just inside the box but it was saved off the hand by Stellitano before hitting the crossbar and out of play.
  • Following a corner kick in the 88th minute, Mostoller struck the ball cleanly from the top of the box but it sailed high.

  • Stevenson outshot Lebanon Valley, 16-11, while both teams finished with corner kicks.
  • Both teams finished with three yellow cards and combined for 23 fouls.
  • The Mustangs 12 wins ties their win total from last season and is the most since 2010 when the team won 14 games. The school record is 15 set in 2005.
  • Nine of the 12 wins this season have come via shutout.
  • It is the seventh solo shutout for Stellitano, who finished with five saves. His 13.5 career shutouts sets the new program record, surpassing Steve Montalvo '01.
  • Medtart started his 75th career game, which ties the program record set by Sean Scarselletta '11.

  • With the win, the Mustangs advance to the MAC Commonwealth semifinals and will travel to top-seeded and 11th-ranked Messiah on Wednesday, November 6. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
