Rosa, McDonald Net First Career Goals in Mustangs 3-0 Win Over Shenandoah

Box Score

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's soccer freshmen James Rosa and Sean McDonald each netted their first career goals as the Mustangs posted their second shutout with a 3-0 non-conference victory over Shenandoah Saturday afternoon at Mustang Stadium.

  • The first shot of the game did not occur until the 12th minute of the contest as the Hornet (1-2-1) fired a shot from 40 yards out that was easily saved by freshman Matt Stellitano.
  • Junior DR Medtart recorded the Mustangs (2-2) first shot of the game as he fired a shot from inside the 18-yard box that was saved by Sam Fischer but sophomore Tariq Lee was there to clean it up and get the hosts on the board in the 23rd minute.
  • Stellitano made a stop late in the period after a Shenandoah corner kick and a shot inside the box to the near post.

  • Stellitano kept the game scoreless with his third save of the game in the 53rd minute on a shot from the top of the 18-yard box.
  • In the 54th minute, Shenandoah had a free kick from 30 yards out that was flicked on by Chase Greene that slipped under the arms of Stellitano. Sophomore Dylan Holy looked to have cleared the ball from the line but the assistant referee had his flag up to erase the goal.
  • Down the other end, Stevenson had two chances on goal as Holy played a long ball into the box that was headed by sophomore Jay Smith over Fischer who came out to challenge the play but Cody Kilbourn saved the ball from crossing the line. Lee then headed the ball on goal but the Hornets defense cleared it for a second time.
  • In the 56th minute, Medtart played a free kick that bounced in the box before freshman Dale Boring fired a shot that was saved by Fischer. Smith cleaned up the rebound but the goal was waved off after he was called for offside.
  • The Mustangs were awarded a penalty kick in the 69th minute that was saved by Michael Romeo, who guessed the right way. But Rosa was there to clean up Medtart's shot for his first career goal.
  • In the 85th minute, McDonald netted his first career goal after Lee split a pair of defenders with a through pass in the box.

  • Stevenson outshot the Hornets, 21-8, including 18-4 in the second half. The hosts also held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks, with all six coming in the second half.
  • Stellitano posted his first career shutout with four saves.
  • It is the second multi-assist game for Medtart this season.
  • The Mustangs surpassed their season total of 10 goals from a season ago.

  • Stevenson concludes its four-game home stand on Wednesday, September 12 when the Mustangs host a non-conference contest versus Catholic beginning at 4:00 p.m.
