Caffrey Records Eight Saves in Mustangs Scoreless Tie Versus Catholic

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson women's soccer sophomore Keegan Caffrey recorded eight saves as the Mustangs and Catholic ended in a scoreless double overtime tie Wednesday evening at Mustang Stadium.

  • The Cardinals (4-0-1) had the first scoring opportunity of the game with a corner kick in the 16th minute that was headed on goal by Krista Boretti but was easily saved by sophomore Caffrey.
  • A few minutes later down the other end, the Mustangs (0-4-1) earned a corner kick following a long throw by junior Alayna Roesener but goalkeeper Nina Fernandez punched away the corner kick.
  • In the 24th minute, Stevenson was in transition but could not get a shot off in close before a shot from outside the 18-yard box from sophomore Allison Arters was saved.
  • Stevenson had a free kick from 40 yards out in the 38th minute with junior Alex Hamel connecting with sophomore Bridget Heist in the box but Heist's header was flicked wide.
  • Down the other end, Catholic had a free kick from 38 yards out with Grace Boras finding Maggie Moorcones in the box but Caffrey made a save on Moorcones' header.

  • Neither team had an impressive look on net, with many of the shots coming from outside the 18-yard box.
  • Hamel had a pair of free kicks in the 69th and 74th minutes but the first was easily saved by Fernandez with the second one blocked.
  • Down the other end, Caffrey had a save on a 25-yard free kick.
  • In the final minute of play, the Cardinals had a free kick from the corner of the 18-yard box but Daniella Montesano sent it just over the crossbar.

  • Catholic had the best scoring opportunity of the game in the 101st minute as Boras received a crossing pass inside the box but whiffed on the shot attempt.
  • The Cardinals had another free kick in the 107th minute from the corner of the 18-yard box. Moorcones' kick bounced around in the box before falling to the feet of Bella Bertoncini but her shot went wide left of the net.

  • Stevenson outshot Catholic, 20-18, including 10-6 in the opening half. The Cardinals held a 4-0 edge in the second overtime.
  • The Mustangs had four corner kicks, three in the first half, to Catholic's one.
  • The teams combined for 35 fouls, including 18 in the second half.
  • The last six meetings between the two teams have been decided by one goal or less, including a pair of ties.
  • Caffrey has allowed just one goal in the last 200 minutes, coming on a penalty kick.

  • Stevenson continues its five-game home stand on Saturday, September 15 when the Mustangs host a non-conference contest versus Elizabethtown beginning at 1:00 p.m.
