Mustangs Hold Albright Without Shot on Net, End in Tie

READING, Pa. - The Stevenson men's soccer team held host Albright without a shot on net while recording a season-high 11 corner kicks but the Mustangs were shutout for just the second time this season in a 0-0 double overtime tie Wednesday evening at Gene L. Shirk Stadium.

  • The Mustangs (8-6, 2-3-1 MAC Commonwealth) fired the first shot of the game in the 12th minute as a header by sophomore Tariq Lee hit off the crossbar.
  • Stevenson put three consecutive shots on frame over the next four minutes, including a pair by sophomore Jay Smith.
  • In the 24th minute, the visitors had its fifth corner kick of the half as freshman Diego Guerrero sent in a pass to sophomore Dylan Holy. Holy's shot was saved by Billy Mullen who also stopped the rebound attempt by sophomore Jevan Leyh.

  • Stevenson had back-to-back corner kicks in the 67th minute with the second one sent in by freshman Gaige Robinson finding classmate Sean McDonald but his shot was high.
  • In the 86th minute, Lee had a penalty kick but Mullen made the stop to keep the game scoreless.
  • The Lions (4-8-2, 1-3-1 MAC Commonwealth) recorded a shot with 1:25 remaining in regulation but the Mustangs defense came up with their second blocked shot of the game.
  • The Mustangs had a corner kick with 26 seconds left but did not record a shot.

  • The Mustangs earned a corner kick in the opening minute of the overtime period. Freshman Alex Morales sent in the ball that found the head of Holy but Mullen came up with another stop.
  • Albright earned its first corner kick of the game with 54 seconds remaining in the period but did not record a shot.
  • Smith recorded a shot with 13 seconds remaining in the second overtime period by Mullen came up with a final save.

  • Stevenson outshot Albright, 15-3, including, 10-0 on shots on goal. The Mustangs also held an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Mullen made 10 stops on the night while rookie Matt Stellitano did not need to make a save.
  • The 11 corner kicks are the most since the team had 15 last season versus the Lions.
  • The teams combined for 31 fouls and eight yellow cards.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, October 20 when the Mustangs host a MAC Commonwealth contest versus Alvernia on senior night beginning at 7:00 p.m.
