Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Stevenson men's soccer freshmen Tariq Lee and Dylan Holy both netted their first career goals but the Mustangs could not overcome a two goal second half deficit in a 3-2 loss versus Gettysburg Friday evening at Clark Field.
The Mustangs (1-2) have had five different freshmen score goals in their opening three games and have had a total of six different goal scorers. In comparison, only six players scored a goal last season.
The hosts got on the board in the 16th minute as Patrick Santini netted his first of two goals on a shot from the left wing off a header by Sam Lerman. The duo recorded all nine of the points for the Bullets (3-0).
Lee tied the game at 1-1 in the 34th minute as he sent a low shot to the far right post for an unassisted tally.
Just five minutes into the second half, Lerman and Santini connected again, with Lerman getting the goal after deflecting a shot in off a defender in front of the net. LEss than two minutes later, Lerman found Santini to give Gettysburg a 3-1 advantage.
Stevenson answered with a tally in the 59th minute as Holy scored on a header off a corner kick from freshman Jordan Fields. But that was as close as the visitor would get as the they were held to just three shots in the second half.
The Bullets outshot the Mustangs, 18-7, including 12-2 in the second half.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, September 9 when the Mustangs travel to York (Pa.) for a non-conference contest beginning at 6:00 p.m.
