OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson junior Emily Lord netted her second career goal while senior Kellen Wittman scored her 22nd as the Mustangs posted a 2-1 victory over Albright in the MAC Commonwealth opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at Mustang Stadium.

The win is the third in a row for the Mustangs (7-3, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth) and fourth one-goal victory this season. Stevenson also improves to 5-2-1 in the all-time series with its first win since 2014 in the series after going 0-1-1 in the previous two.

Senior Lauren Spivey was looking for her fourth goal in as many games as freshman Melanie Parncutt played a ball off her chest to the feet of Spivey who ripped a left footed shot from just outside the 18-yard box but it was saved by Alexis Tunney.

Down the other end, senior Tiffany McKee, who tied the school record with her 64th start in net, got her first action of the game as she made her first save of the game in the 16th minute off a bending cross.

After a long kick by McKee that was picked up and carried down the side by sophomore Marissa Inglisa, Inglisa found Wittman at the top of the box who fired a shot towards the net but the ball took a bounce off a defender and to the feet or Lord who beat Tunney one-on-one to put the hosts on the board in the 22nd minute.

In the 36th minute, Lord cleared the ball down the field and Wittman and a Lion defender were in a race towards the ball with the ball being played back to Tunney. But a poor clear attempt by Tunney was blocked by Wittman who was alone with a wide open net for the score.

It is the second goal of the season for Wittman, which comes one year to the day after suffering a season ending injury a season ago. She also sits alone in eighth place with 22 career goals.

Albright (5-5, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth) got on the board in the 59th minute after McKee came off her line to stop a through ball played for Crissy Terraces but after knocking away the initial attempt, Daniella LoBue had an open look at net to get the visitors within one.

Junior Sam Hooker almost found the back of the net for the first time this season as her header off a corner kick by sophomore Alex Hamel was knocked up over the bar by Tunney.

The Lions had a look at a free kick in the 75th minute and Emily Mollica bent the shot around the wall but McKee was there for an easy save.

McKee finished with five saves to earn her 34th career victory now just two shy of the program record.

The Mustangs were outshot, 12-9 for the game while both teams finished with five corner kicks.

Stevenson returns to action on Friday, October 6 when the Mustangs host a non-conference contest versus Kenyon beginning at 7:00 p.m.
