SIESTA KEY, Fla. – The Stevenson University women's beach volleyball team went 2-1 on day on of the Rox National Small College Championships at the Fiesta on Siesta Key Saturday. The Mustangs (10-9) opened with a 5-0 win over San Diego College, then dropped a 4-1 decision to Eckerd College. Stevenson closed out the day with a 3-2 win over Warner.
Stevenson closes out pool play on Sunday at 8:30 am against Huntingdon College and a win will move the Mustangs to the Gold bracket of the 10-team field.
After sweeping San Diego College, junior Lauren Weaver and freshman Katie Leftridge posted the lone win against Eckerd at No. 2. Graduate student Samantha Perillo and senior Kristen Brooks fell in three sets at No. 1.
Against Warner, the Mustangs picked up wins in the bottom three flights. Sophomore Grace Coleman and freshman Trang Christensen won at No. 3, while junior Megan Hren and freshman Darian Hileman won at No. 4. Junior Deanna Bradbury and sophomore Chelsea Ireland picked up a point at No. 5.
