Baseball Drops Series Opener to Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Host Lebanon Valley College scored seven times over the final two innings to post an 11-5 MAC Commonwealth baseball victory over Stevenson University at McGill Field Thursday afternoon.

Stevenson (13-17, 5-8 MAC Commonwealth) took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first.  Junior Jake Hall tripled to open the game, and scored as sophomore Matthew Kerber singled to make it 1-0.  Kerber stole second, moved to third on a fly ball to left field, and scored when senior Kevin Kopas grounded out to make it 2-0.  Billy Small homered one batter later to make it 3-0.

Lebanon Valley  (15-11, 7-6 MAC Commonwealth) plated a run in the first and two in the second to tie the game 3-3, and took a 4-3 lead in the fourth.  Stevenson responded by pushing across a pair in the top of the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. 

Freshman Kevin Murray, Jr. worked a leadoff walk and stole second, followed by an infield single by Hall.  After the pair both moved into scoring position on a Kerber sac bunt, junior John D'Aquanno singled to left field to reclaim the lead for Stevenson.

LVC took the lead back in the seventh when it scored twice, then blew the game open with five runs in the eighth to go up 11-5.

Hall finished 3-4 at the plate while Kerber and D'Aquanno each finished with two hits as Stevenson was outhit 13-8.

Sophomore James Wiercinski came on in relief in the fourth and took the loss, allowing five hits and four runs in 3.1 innings of work.  He struck out three and walked three.  Junior Michael Remeikis started and allowed seven hits and four runs in 3.2 innings.

Stevenson and Lebanon Valley complete their season series Friday with a 1:00 pm doubleheader at Sugar Field.
