WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Stevenson University women's beach volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to Division I foes at the UNC-Wilmington tournament at Dig & Dive Saturday. The Mustangs (8-7) fell to College of Charleston 5-0 and Coastal Carolina 4-1.
Against the Chanticleers, junior Lauren Weaver and freshman Katie Leftridge won Stevenson's first-ever pairs match against a Division I varsity program, winning 21-15, 13-21, 15-10 at No. 2. Sophomore Grace Coleman and freshman Trang Christensen also went three sets at No. 3 before falling 14-21, 21-18,15-12.
Against College of Charleston, graduate student Samantha Perillo and senior Kristen Brooks took the Cougars' No. 1 pair to three sets before falling 17-21, 21-10, 15-8.
Stevenson continues action in the UNCW tournament on Sunday, facing Mercer and the host Seahawks.
