Widener Walks Off With 4-3 Win

ASTON, Pa. – Host Widener University scored twice over the final two innings to walk off with a 4-3 MAC Commonwealth baseball victory over Stevenson University at Maplezone Sports Complex Monday afternoon.

Widener (8-5, 2-1 MAC Commonwealth) trailed 3-2 when it tied the game with a run in the eighth, then pushed across the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth when Nick Enos doubled to right, allowing Bob Barnett to score the winning run.

Stevenson (6-8, 1-2 MAC Commonwealth) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning when junior Jake Dimon singled down the right field line to plate freshman Brady Kessler and sophomore Matthew Kerber.  Kerber reached on a one-out error, while Kessler reached on catcher's interference.

The Pride scored single runs in the bottom of the second and again in the fifth to tie the game 2-2 before Stevenson took a 3-2 lead in the seventh.  Kerber led off the inning with a single, moved to second on a ground out and third on a sac bunt, then scored on a sacrifice fly to right by sophomore Connor Wasilnak.

Dimon and senior Kevin Kopas each had two hits as the Mustangs were outhit 11-7.  Senior Matt Phillips took the loss in relief, allowing five hits and two runs in 1.1 innings of relief.  Freshman starter Zach Kaye went the first seven innings and allowed six hits and two runs (one earned) while scattering six hits. He struck out five but issued five walks.

Widener's Elliot Snyder picked up his first victory of the season by pitching a scoreless ninth.  Pride starter Kyle McKelvy allowed five hits and two unearned runs in his five innings, striking out three.

Stevenson returns to action Tuesday when it hosts York (Pa.) College in a 3:30 game at Sugar Field.
