ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Stevenson University women's beach volleyball team dropped a pair of 4-1 decisions to Eckerd College in a double-dual match on Tuesday. The Mustangs (4-4) battled in several matches.
The No. 5 tandem of junior Deanna Bradbury and sophomore Chelsea Ireland were three-set winners in both matches, rallying from a 1-0 deficit both times. In the first match, the pair won 15-21, 21-13, 15-7, while in the second match, they rallied 13-21, 21-14, 15-13.
The No. 3 pair of sophomore Grace Coleman and freshman Trang Christensen fell in three sets in both matches. In the first match, they dropped the first set 21-12 before forcing the decisive set with a 21-17 win. In the third set, Eckerd's Arielle Erillo and Mackenzie Redner prevailed 15-9. In the day's second match, Coleman and Christensen fell 22-20, 19-21, 15-12.
Junior Lauren Weaver and freshman Katie Leftridge pushed at No. 2 in the first match, sending both sets to extra points before falling 22-20, 25-23. In the second match, they fell by a 21-15, 22-20 score. Top-seeded pair graduate student Samantha Perillo and senior Kristen Brooks fell 21-19, 21-17 in the first match and 22-20, 21-16 in the second.
Junior Megan Hren and freshman Darian Hileman, competing at No. 4, nearly forced a third set in the second match of the day, falling 21-15, 22-20.
Junior Katie McGuire and freshman Julie Nightwine won their exhibition match in match number two of the day.
Stevenson returns to action on Thursday when it travels to Webber International University to face the host Warriors as well as Warner.
