MIAMI – The Stevenson women's beach volleyball team opened their spring break trip with two wins on Sunday, defeating St. Thomas University and Florida National University by identical 5-0 scores.
Against St. Thomas, Stevenson (4-2) won four of five matches in two sets. The No. 1 tandem of graduate student Samantha Perillo and senior Kristen Brooks won 21-18, 18-21, 15-7. Junior Lauren Weaver and freshman Katie Leftridge won at No. 2, while at No. 3, sophomore Grace Coleman and freshman Trang Christensen were victorious. Junior Megan Hren and freshman Darian Hileman won at No. 4, while sophomore Chelsea Ireland and junior Deanna Bradbury won at No. 5. Junior Katie McGuire and freshman Julie Nightwine won their exhibition match 21-13, 21-14.
Perillo and Brooks were again the only ones needing to go three in the second match against FNU, with the Mustangs playing in the same pairings. The No. 1 duo won 21-11, 12-21, 15-4.
Stevenson returns to action on Tuesday when it faces Eckerd College in a double dual match beginning at 1:30 pm.
