Box Score

ELMIRA, N.Y. - The Stevenson women's ice hockey team was held scoreless for the third time this season as third-ranked Elmira showcased the nation's highest scoring offense in a 7-0 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) victory Saturday afternoon at the Murray Athletic Center.

The Mustangs (0-5-1, 0-3-1 UCHC), who have played four teams ranked in the top three in the opening six games, allowed seven goals for the third time this season. The team also falls to 0-4 against Elmira, who has been ranked at No. 3 in all four meetings.

Just 38 seconds into the contest, the Soaring Eagles (5-0-0, 3-0-0 UCHC) found the back of the net as Tiia Hertto netted her first goal of the season. The hosts then drew the first power play opportunity of the game at the 4:29 mark and fired three shots on net, which were turned aside by sophomore Annie Smyth-Hammond. The Mustangs also had three blocked shots on the penalty kill by seniors Allie Bruns, Monica Pozuc and Chelsea Blackburn.

Fifty-two seconds after the power play ended, Elmira found the back of the net for the second time before extending the lead to three 1:02 later.

The Mustangs earned their first of two opening period power play opportunities after an interference call against the hosts midway through the period. Stevenson was held without a shot on net during the player advantage as each team fired a shot wide.

With 1:05 left in the opening frame, the visitors power play unit went out once again and sent three shots wide of the net before intermission. With 55 seconds remaining in the power play to start the second period, Stevenson recorded a pair of shots on net but both were knocked aside by Kelcey Crawford.

Two minutes after the Soaring Eagles pushed their lead to four at the 2:49 mark of the second period, the Mustangs went on the power play for the third time. Blackburn won the offensive zone face-off and senior Sarah Antonelli fired a shot on net. After Crawford recorded her second save on the penalty kill, Elmira recorded a pair of shots forcing junior Caitie Darosa to make a pair of saves.

Darosa was forced to come up big once again as Elmira's penalty kill units went on the offensive, firing a shot off the pipe before recording four shots on net. The Mustangs power play was cut short after Stevenson committed its second penalty of the day.

After 13 seconds of four-on-four action, the hosts had 1:39 of power play before the second intermission and forced Darosa to come up with four saves. Darosa finished the period with 14 saves in 17:11 of play.

Elmira started the third period with eight seconds remaining on its power play but the Mustangs penalty kill unit got off unscathed. The Soaring Eagles had a five-on-three power play for two minutes after the Mustangs were whistled for two penalties. The hosts made it count as Maddy Jerolman tapped in a rebound on the open back post. Elmira had another power play opportunity for 33 seconds but Darosa made another two saves.

Stevenson had a five-on-three opportunity as the Soaring Eagles had three players in the box. The Mustangs, were on the power play for a total of 3:35, including a two player advantage for two minutes, and fired nine shots on net but Crawford kept all of them in front of her. The Mustangs finished 0-for-7 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
