OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's soccer freshman Tariq Lee scored 3:45 into extra time as the Mustangs posted a 2-1 overtime MAC Commonwealth victory over Widener Saturday afternoon at Mustang Stadium.

The win for the Mustangs (2-7-2, 1-1 MAC Commonwealth) snaps a nine game winless streak and a seven game scoring drought. It was also the third straight victory for Stevenson over Widener as the Mustangs take a 4-3 series lead.

Lee did a nice job to win the ball back down in the offensive zone and fired the first shot of the game from the top of the box but it was blocked by the Widener defense.

Two minutes later, Lee drew a foul in the box to earn the Mustangs a penalty kick in the ninth minute. Mirza stepped up and converted his second penalty kick of the season.

In the 13th minute, senior Scott Dorman ripped a shot from the top of the box after the ball bounced to his feet but his one-timer sailed high of the cage.

The Pride (3-5-3, 0-2-1 MAC Commonwealth) put together their first offensive opportunity in the 25th minute as John Colbert hit a centering pass for Nick LeFevre but it was just out of reach for LeFevre who could not get a foot to the ball.

Sophomore DR Medtart sent a through ball for Lee in the 35th minute but the Widener defender caught up and Lee earned the first corner kick of the game for the Mustangs. Senior Eric Dorsey served in the cross and found the head of classmate Alex Lingg but the shot was right at goaltender Danny Thompson for the save.

A few minutes after entering the game, freshman Matthew Glady made a nice play to earn another corner kick for the hosts but Stevenson was whistled for a foul in the box on the cross.

In the final seconds of the opening half, the Mustangs were awarded a free kick from 50 yards out and the service from freshman Jevan Leyh bounced off multiple players in the box before hitting off junior Aleem Mirza, but Thompson was there for the stop.

Early in the second half, Leyh served the ball into the box after a long free kick finding freshman Jordan Fields who collected a misplayed ball by the Widener defender. Fields ripped a shot but it was knocked away by Thompson before his rebound attempt was blocked.

In the 56th minute, freshman Dylan Holy sent a long ball for Lee who was able to cut back and get a shot off that was blocked out of bounds for a corner kick. Two minutes later, Holy sent in another through ball for Lee who was able to beat a few defender but could not get enough power behind his shot.

The Pride pieced together a nice chance to level the game at 1-1 in the 67th minute as Nick Sienkiewicz hit a cross to the back post for Matt Perri but Perri sent the shot wide.

Widener continued to push offensively and after a few failed clear attempts by the Mustangs, Perri hit a through ball from the top of the box to Dylan Pratzner who scored low to the far left post to tie the game in the 75th minute.

Kevin McKenna nearly gave the visitors a lead in the 78th minute after receiving a pass in the box and ripping a hard shot to the far post but senior Bobby Considine made a diving save to keep the game tied.

The Pride had another opportunity late in the game to take a lead as Logan Musselman received a short corner kick at the top of the box but his shot to the near post was saved by Considine. Just a minute later, Noah Saba had an open shot from 10 yards out but sent the shot wide.

In the 88th minute, freshman Jay Smith got in behind the defense but his shot was right at Thompson.

With 25 seconds remaining in regulation, Pratzner was alone on the back post as a pass floated to him but Considine recovered for the save to send the game into overtime.

Considine recorded a save 3:02 into the overtime period before the Mustangs went on the offensive. Sophomore Nick Ellis fired a shot in the box that was saved by Thompson but Lee was there for the rebound to give the hosts the win.

The Pride held a 20-17 advantage in shots, including 14-9 in the second half while also holding a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

Stevenson returns to action on Wednesday, October 11 when the Mustangs travel to Hood for a MAC Commonwealth contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
