Mustangs Fall to No. 3 Messiah in Season Finale

Box Score

GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Stevenson men's soccer team was held to just one shot in the second half as third-ranked Messiah found the back of the net twice in each half for a 4-0 MAC Commonwealth victory Saturday afternoon at Shoemaker Field.

Senior Jake Brown recorded his 100th save this season after totaling a pair to reach the century mark. Brown becomes the seventh goaltender in program history to record at least 100 saves in a single season.

Brown was tested right away as Messiah (17-1, 8-0 MAC Commonwealth) fired a shot on net just 1:31 into the contest before following up with a shot wide. The Falcons earned their first corner kick of the game in the seventh minute and Nick West fired in a blocked header by Colby Thomas for the early score. Just 1:31 later, the hosts added a second goal as Kirby Robbins finished on a through ball into the box from Danny Brandt.

Freshman Tariq Lee recorded the first shot of the game for the Mustangs (3-12-2, 2-6 MAC Commonwealth) in the 17th minute but his shot was saved by Connor Bell. The visitors settled in and only allowed seven first half shots while recording four of its own. In last season's meeting, Stevenson recorded just two shots in the entire game.

The Falcons added a third goal 10 minutes into the second half as Brandt added a goal on a quick shot after the Mustangs defense could not clear the ball.

After a shot by junior Iliyas Mirza was blocked in the 57th minute, Stevenson was held without a shot...

In the 88th minute, Brit Haseltine had a breakaway up the middle after getting behind the Mustangs defense but sophomore Bobby Considine came off his line to make a big save.

The Mustangs were outshot, 16-5 while the Falcons also held an 8-0 edge in corner kicks.

The game marks the end of the careers of Brown, Alex Lingg, Eric Dorsey, Adam Diabagate, Jacob Russ, Nathan VanRensselaer, Andrew Catalana and Scott Dorman.
