Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson women's soccer junior Kellen Wittman scored her 20th career goal but the Mustangs were outshot 23-8 as Johns Hopkins posted a 6-1 non-conference victory Tuesday afternoon at Mustang Stadium.
With the win, the Blue Jays (6-1-2) have won all 11 meetings versus Stevenson dating back to 1995. Johns Hopkins has won five straight while the loss snaps a three-game unbeaten streak for the Mustangs.
The visitors nearly got on the board in the opening five minutes of the game, but Adrienne Johnson's header off a corner kick went straight to junior goalkeeper Tiffany McKee. The Blue Jays made their next corner kick count as Meg Van de Loo finished a header in the six-yard box.
Kristen Hori doubled Johns Hopkins lead in the 19th minute before Michelle Santangelo finished a one-time pass from Alyssa Morgan off a corner kick by Alexa Rangecroft to make it 3-0 in the 33rd minute. The Blue Jays totaled five corner kicks in the opening half.
Freshman Brianna Christie recorded the Mustangs (3-4-1) only shot in the opening period, a shot from 30 yards out that went wide left of the goal.
Johns Hopkins added two goals in a 1:26 span early in the second half to extend its lead to 5-0. Ana Bengoechea finished in the six-yard box on a give-and-go with Ven de Loo before Bailey Monaco scored on an unassisted blast just inside the 18-yard box.
The Mustangs got on the board in the 67th minute as Wittman finished a long throw-in by freshman Alayna Roesener. Wittman becomes just the 11th player in program history to total 20 career goals and ranks tied for ninth on the all-time goals list.
The Blue Jays added a sixth goal in the 76th minute on a scramble in the box that Emily Maheras put away after getting her feet free.
Freshman Alex Hamel nearly put away her first career goal in the 81st minute as she beat her defender to the ball and hit the shot over goalkeeper Robyn Lipschultz but the ball hit off the crossbar and the Blue Jays were able to clear it away.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, October 1 when the Mustangs open MAC Commonwealth play on the road at Widener beginning at 5:00 p.m.
