Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's soccer senior Michael Tringali led the defense with 12 saves as the Mustangs battled Roanoke to a scoreless double overtime tie in the first meeting between the two teams Tuesday evening at Mustang Stadium.
The Mustangs (1-7-2) have not allowed a goal in the last 184:47 but have been outshot, 33-22 during that time. Stevenson was outshot 22-5 versus the Maroons (4-3-1) while Roanoke also held a 15-3 advantage in corner kicks.
After a corner kick by Tim Mahabir was cleared back to him in the 21st minute, Mahabir sent a cross back into the box to the head of Adam Yesbeck but his header was straight to the chest of Tringali. The Maroons tallied the first seven shots of the game.
With under 12 minutes remaining in the opening half, junior Adam Diabagate ran onto a through ball and crossed it in towards the net for freshman DR Medtart who was running towards the six-yard box, but goalkeeper Nick Tadros dove to get a hand on it and knock it away.
Sophomore Joel Klopcic recorded the first two Stevenson shots in the game, both coming in the 41st minute. After a cross by junior Denzel Seisay was knocked towards the edge of the box, Klopcic ran onto the ball but his first shot was blocked by the defense before Tadros collected the second.
Early in the second half, Diabagate got around Tadros who came off his line and out to the edge of the 18-yard box but Diabagate had a poor angle at the goal and sent the ball across the face of the net.
The Maroons put four of their seven shots on frame in the second half but all four shots were stopped by Tringali. Through 10 games this season, Tringali is averaging 7.2 saves per game and totaled double digit saves three times.
Tringali came up big in the overtime periods, knocking down a point-blank shot for Fortune Sibanda who was wide open at the top of the six-yard box. Less than 30 seconds later, he saved another shot, this time from inside the 18-yard box.
The Mustangs were held to just one shot in the two overtime periods.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, October 1 when the Mustangs open MAC Commonwealth play on the road at Widener. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
