Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - Home runs by seniors Ian Eberly and Nick Peifer propelled the Stevenson University baseball team to an early 6-2 lead, but the Mustangs fell 19-7 to No. 13 Salisbury University in non-conference play Tuesday afternoon.
Stevenson (17-20) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second on Eberly's three-run blast to right field that brought in freshman Jonathan Lugo and sophomore John D'Aquanno. Lugo and D'Aquanno hit back-to-back singles with two outs. Salisbury (25-10) got a pair of runs back in the bottom half of the inning.
Sophomore Billy Small was hit by a pitch to leadoff the third, and after a Sea Gull pitching change, Peifer homered to right to make it 5-2. The home run was followed by back-to-back singles by sophomore Jake Hall and senior Kevin Wu, with Hall scoring when D'Aquanno reached on a fielders choice to make it 6-2.
Salisbury plated four runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game 6-6, then exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Hall scored Stevenson's other run in the fifth when he led off with a single and eventually scored on a single up the middle by Eberly.
Eberly, Small, Wu and Hall all finished with two hits apiece as Stevenson was outhit 16-12. Senior Ryan Martin took the loss on the hill, starting and working the first 3.2 innings.
Stevenson opens a three-game MAC Commonwealth series with Albright at home on Friday at 3:30 at Sugar Field.
