OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson University wrapped up its inaugural women's beach volleyball season by posting a split on day two of the Stevenson Invitational Sunday. The Mustangs fell to Carson-Newman 4-1 in Sunday's first match before rebounding to top Lincoln Memorial 3-2. The Mustangs wrap up their inaugural season 6-10 overall.
Sophomores Annika Schwartz and Megan Hren picked up Stevenson's lone point against the Eagles, posting a 21-13, 21-19 win at No. 2. Two other matches went three sets, as sophomores Deanna Bradbury and Katie McGuire fell 21-11, 15-21, 15-9 at No. 4, while freshmen Grace Coleman and Moriah Savage fell 21-19, 17-21, 20-18.
The Mustangs won in the top three flights as it posted its second win over Lincoln Memorial on the weekend. Hren and Schwartz rallied for a 12-21, 23-21, 15-11 win at No. 2. Junior Kristen Brooks and graduate student Samantha Perillo also rallied at No. 1, dropping the first set 15-21 before winning 21-15, 21-11. Junior Sara Bollinger and sophomore Lauren Weaver were 24-22, 21-15 winners at No. 3.
Stevenson became the first NCAA Division III institution to sponsor beach volleyball and was the first to take the court this spring. Stevenson is one of just two current Division III programs currently competing.
