WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Stevenson University beach volleyball team dropped three matches to Division I schools at the UNC-Wilmington Invitational on Saturday. The Mustangs fell to the host Seahawks and Coastal Carolina 5-0, and to Winthrop 3-2.
Against UNCW graduate student Samantha Perillo and junior Sara Bollinger took their match at No. 2 to three sets, winning the second set 21-19.
In the match against the Chanticleers, sophomores Katie McGuire and Deanna Bradbury won their first set at No. 3 21-14 before ultimately falling.
The Mustangs were able to take two matches against the Eagles. Sophomores Annika Schwartz and Megan Hren were 21-18, 25-23 winners at No. 1, while at No. 2, Perillo and Bollinger prevailed in three sets, 21-18, 19-21, 15-11.
The UNC Wilmington Invitational concludes Sunday with a pairs tournament.
