SIESTA KEY, Fla. – The Stevenson University beach volleyball team went 2-2 at the Fiesta on Siesta Key Tournament held Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, the Mustangs fell 5-0 to Webber International before defeating Missouri Baptist 4-1. On Sunday, Stevenson downed Principia 4-1 before falling 5-0 to Eckerd.
Against Missouri Baptist, sophomores Annika Schwartz and Megan Hren rallied for an 18-21, 21-16, 15-12 win at No. 1, while graduate student Samantha Perillo and sophomore Lauren Weaver posted a 21-15, 21-16 win at No. 2. Freshmen Moriah Savage and Grace Coleman picked up a 21-17, 21-14 win at No. 4, while senior Kara Anderson and freshman Lauren Jan pulled out a 24-22 win in the first set before posting a 21-10 win to pick up a point.
The Mustangs had a pair of three-set victories against Principia. Sophomore Deanna Bradbury and freshman Chelsea Ireland rallied for a 19-21, 21-13, 15-13 win at No. 3, while Savage and Coleman were 21-17, 12-21, 15-12 winners at No. 4. Schwartz and Hren picked up a 21-16, 21-10 win at No. 1, while Perillo and Weaver prevailed 21-15, 21-17 at No. 2.
Stevenson closes out its inaugural beach volleyball season April 23-24 when it hosts a four-team tournament at the newly-constructed beach volleyball courts located adjacent to Mustang Stadium. The Mustangs welcome Carson-Newman, Lincoln Memorial and Morgan State.
