Bats Stay Hot, Mustangs Post 17 Runs on Dutchmen

Box Score

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Stevenson University pounded out 17 hits and posted a season-high 17 runs as the Mustangs outslugged Lebanon Valley College en route to a 17-13 win Friday afternoon at McGill Field.  The Mustangs reached double figures in the run column for the second straight game and eighth time this season.

The 17 runs for Stevenson (13-12, 4-3 MAC Commonwealth) are the most since a 17-3 win over Albright on April 26, 2013.  The Mustangs scored in eight of nine innings and had multiple runs in five innings.  Five players finished with multiple hits for the Mustangs, with six notching multiple RBIs.

Seniors Kevin Wu and Matt Myers and freshman Matthew Kerber each finished with three hits.  Myers had a two-run inside-the-park home run in the fourth, while Wu was a home run shy of the cycle.  All three finished with two RBI.  Sophomore Jake Hall belted his third home run in two games and finished 2-5 with three RBI, while senior Ian Eberly also had two hits.  Eberly and senior Nick Peifer each drove in a pair of runs.

Lebanon Valley (10-12, 3-4 MAC Commonwealth) got its offense in four big innings, scoring four times in the first to tie the game 4-4.  The Dutchmen, who were led by Michael Puglisi's five RBI, pushed across three in the fourth, two in the seventh and four in the eighth.

Stevenson scored four times in the top of the first.  Eberly led off the game with a walk, followed by a Wu triple and a Peifer single.  After senior Craig Joseph was hit by a pitch, a two-run single by Hall up the middle made it 4-0.

Following a lightning delay, Lebanon Valley scored four times in the bottom of the first to tie the game.  Stevenson took a 5-4 lead in the third when an Eberly double plated Kerber, while a three-run fourth made it 8-4.  Myers two-run inside-the-parker was followed by Hall's solo shot to right.

Lebanon Valley pulled within 8-7 with three in the fourth before a Wu double to bring in Eberly in the fifth gave the guests some breathing room. Stevenson scored three more times in the sixth, including a two-run single by Kerber, to take a 12-7 lead.

Stevenson led 16-9 after scoring twice in the seventh and eighth innings, but a four-run eighth for the Dutchmen pulled them to within three, 16-13.  The final Mustang run in the ninth came at Myers worked a leadoff walk and scored on a wild pitch.

Senior Alec Romanowski improved to 4-0 on the mound for the Mustangs, working the first six innings and allowing nine hits and seven runs (six earned).  He struck out three.  Three relievers each worked an inning for Stevenson.

Stevenson and Lebanon Valley meet again Saturday in a 1:00 MAC Commonwealth doubleheader at Stevenson's Sugar Field.
