Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Sophomore Michael Remeikis tossed seven shutout innings as the Stevenson University baseball team registered a 4-1 victory over Bridgewater (Va.) College Sunday afternoon.
Stevenson (3-3) posted its third straight win with the triumph.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Senior Ian Eberly led off the game by working a walk, followed by classmate Matt Myers reaching on a fielders' choice and Eberly moving over to third on an error by the Bridgewater (6-2) shortstop. After a fly ball by senior Craig Joseph moved Myers to second, junior Kevin Kopas delivered a two-run single up the middle.
Stevenson tacked on solo runs in the fourth and seventh frames. Sophomore Billy Small led off the fourth with a walk, and came home on a triple to the gap in left center by senior Nick Peifer. In the seventh, a Myers single through the right side brought in sophomore John D'Aquanno, who had reached on a one-out error. Eberly, who had followed D'Aquanno with a double, was gunned down at the plate by Eagle right fielder Kenner Berry.
Cavin Clyde scored Bridgewater's lone run in the bottom of the eighth on a sac fly to left by Austin Batten.
Remeikis scattered six hits over seven innings of work, striking out four and walking four to even his record at 1-1. Senior Trevor Fitzsimmons worked the final two innings and allowed just one hit.
Stevenson returns to action Friday when it hosts Keystone in a 3:00 contest at Park Field.
