Box Score THOMASVILLE, N.C. - After trailing 9-3, Penn-State Harrisburg plated two runs in the bottom of the ninth to post an 11-10 win over the Stevenson University baseball team Saturday at Finch Field. The Nittany Lions evened their record at 1-1, while the Mustangs fall to 0-2.
PSU-Harrisburg took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second before the Mustangs exploded for nine runs on five hits while taking advantage of five Nittany Lion errors in the top of the fourth. Senior Craig Joseph singled to lead off the frame and scored on a wild pitch, while a two-run single by senior Kevin Wu plated sophomore Billy Small and junior Kevin Kopas and tied the game.
After going up 4-3 on an error, the Mustangs made it 6-3 on a two-run single by sophomore John D'Aquanno. D'Aquanno later scored on a wild pitch, while the other runs came via an RBI single by Kopas and a sac fly by Small.
Sophomore Travis Brown made it 10-3 in the fifth when he belted a two-out solo home run, his first of the season.
Penn State-Harrisburg climbed back in the game by scoring twice in the sixth and four times in the seventh to make it 10-9. The Nittany Lions pushed across the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the ninth on RBI doubles by Travis VanHouten and Russell Boop.
Wu, Brown, D'Aquanno and Ian Eberly each had two hits for Stevenson as the Mustangs were outhit 14-10. Matt Phillips took the loss on the mound as he came in in relief at the ninth. After Mustang starter Ryan Martin went just 1.1 innings, Matt Myers and Austin Reitz combined to toss the next 6.2 innings.
Stevenson closes out the weekend by facing Frostburg State on Sunday at noon at Finch Field.
