Mustangs Fall to No. 16 Arcadia in MAC Commonwealth Semifinals

Box Score

GLENSIDE, Pa. - For the second consecutive season, the Stevenson women's soccer team fell to Arcadia in the MAC Commonwealth semifinals as the Mustangs could not overcome a slow start in a 3-0 loss versus the 16th-ranked Knights Wednesday evening at Easton Field.

It is the first game in eight all-time meetings between the two teams that the victory of margin is more than one goal. The Mustangs 3-2 win earlier this season marked the first time more than one goal was scored in the series. Prior to this season there were three scoreless ties and four 1-0 wins, with three of those coming from Stevenson.

The second-seeded Knights (17-2) needed just 44 seconds to get on the board as the hosts offense pressed early. After Stevenson failed to clear it out of their defensive zone, Kayla Haberbosch scored to the near post off a cross from Jackie Glanfield. Haberbosch also scored in the first meeting earlier this season.

In the 11th minute, the third-seeded Mustangs (8-7-2) nearly responded following a corner kick by junior Brittney Celano but a right-footed volley inside the 18-yard box by freshman Emily Lord was blocked by Arcadia's defense, which was packed in the box.

The hosts made it 2-0 in the 19th minute as Glanfield scored her first of two goals off a breakaway, deflecting a shot off junior goalkeeper Tiffany McKee to the far right post. Jess Kelly was credited with the assist.

Glanfield and Kelly connected a second time early in the second half as Kelly played a through ball for Glanfield who was able to beat McKee one-on-one with another shot to the lower corner.

The Mustangs were outshot 24-12 and put just two shots on frame while the Knights held a slight 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

Stevenson will now await selection for the 2016 ECAC Division III Women's Soccer Championship, which will be announced on Monday, November 7.
