Box Score BALTIMORE – Junior Annika Schwartz recorded her third straight double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs as Stevenson University finished its regular season with a 3-1 non-conference women's volleyball victory over Johns Hopkins University at Goldfarb Gymnasium Thursday night. Set scores were 25-19, 20-25, 25-18, 25-21.
Stevenson (24-7) extended its win streak to 15 matches with the victory. The Blue Jays (16-8) saw a four-match win streak snapped.
For Schwartz, it marked her 12th double-double of the season and fourth in the last six matches. Sophomore Moriah Savage also finished with 12 kills on .500 hitting, as she had one error on 22 attempts, while senior Kristen Brooks registered nine kills and nine digs. Junior Deanna Bradbury added 12 digs, while senior Sara Bollinger handed out 22 assists and freshman Julie Nightwine 16. Freshman Victoria Prokic had seven block assists as the Mustangs finished with 11 blocks as a team.
Clinging to a 13-12 lead in the first set, the Mustangs used a 9-2 run capped by a block by junior Lauren Weaver and sophomore Chelsea Ireland to make it 22-14. Prokic closed out the first frame with a kill after Johns Hopkins pulled within 24-19. In the second set, the Blue Jays jumped out to an early 14-9 lead. The guests got within two, 15-13, on a Schwartz kill, but got no closer.
Stevenson gradually pulled away in the third, scoring nine of the final 12 points of the set, including a Savage kill that gave the Mustangs a 2-1 lead. Hopkins led 13-11 in the fourth set in its bid to force a fifth, but five straight points capped by a block by Prokic and Savage gave Stevenson a 16-13 lead. The Blue Jays pulled within one, 21-20, before the guests posted four of the final five points, with Weaver closing out the match with a kill.
The visitors hit .263 for the match, including .312 in the second set, while Johns Hopkins hit at a .227 clip on the evening. The Blue Jays were hurt by 15 service errors.
Stevenson returns to action Wednesday, November 2 when it hosts a MAC Commonwealth semifinal against either fourth-seeded Widener or No. 5 seed Lycoming in a 7:00 match at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
