Box Score READING, Pa. – The Stevenson University women's volleyball team finished unbeaten in MAC Commonwealth play for a fifth straight season with a 3-1 win at Alvernia University at Jack McCloskey Court. The Mustangs are now 24-7 overall and 8-0 in conference play, giving them a record of 42-0 since joining the MAC Commonwealth in the regular season since joining the conference prior to 2012.
Set scores were 25-11, 26-24, 21-25, 25-18. The win also extended Stevenson's win streak to 14 matches.
Junior Annika Schwartz notched her 11th double-double of the season with 13 kills and 11 digs, while junior Lauren Weaver and sophomore Moriah Savage posted eight kills apiece. Savage hit .538 on the evening with just one error on 13 attempts. Freshman Victoria Prokic added five kills and six block assists.
Junior Megan Hren led the Mustangs defensively with 18 digs, while senior Kristen Brooks added 15. Senior Sara Bollinger handed out 17 assists, while freshman Julie Nightwine registered 16.
Alvernia (9-17, 1-6 MAC Commonwealth) got 10 kills apiece from Laura Wachowicz and Emily Smith.
After Stevenson cruised to a 25-11 win in the first set, the Mustangs trailed 13-6 in the second before running seven straight points off with Brooks serving, capped by a Schwartz kill. Stevenson took an 18-15 lead before the Crusaders rallied to take a 22-20 lead. Alvernia led 24-23 and was serving for set point when an attack error followed by blocks by Schwartz and Weaver gave the guests a 2-0 lead.
In the third set Stevenson led 14-11 before four straight Crusader points gave the hosts a 15-14 lead. The two teams traded the lead two more times before Alvernia took the lead for good on a Smith kill to go up 17-16. In the fourth, the set was tied 16-16 when Stevenson recorded eight straight points capped by a Crusader setting error. Alvernia pulled within 24-18 before being tripped up by a ball handling error to end the match.
Stevenson hit .174 as a team while limiting Alvernia to .092 hitting, helped by 11 Mustang blocks. The Mustangs held an opponent under .100 hitting for the eighth time this season.
The Mustangs close out the regular season Thursday night when they travel to Johns Hopkins for a 7:00 match.
