Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson women's soccer team scored three times in the last 10 minutes as the Mustangs posted a 4-0 victory over MAC Commonwealth opponent Alvernia on Senior Night Friday evening at Mustang Stadium.
The Mustangs (7-5-2, 4-1-1 MAC Commonwealth) currently sit in third place with 13 points behind both Messiah and Arcadia, who have yet to play each other. The win was also the sixth straight in the series versus Alvernia (6-10, 3-3 MAC Commonwealth), with all six wins being shutouts.
Freshman Alex Hamel scored her first career goal in the 40th minute after the Crusaders defense failed to clear a corner kick away by junior Brittney Celano. Hamel struck a left-footed one-timer in the middle of the 18-yard box to the near post out of the vision of goalkeeper Jessica Plunkett.
In the 60th minute Plunkett had to be subbed out of the game due to injury, letting way to Kelcey Hutchinson, who allowed three second half goals.
In the 81st minute, freshman Alayna Roesener scored her second goal of the season off a header on a Celano corner kick. Both of Roesener's goals have been headers off of a Celano corner kick, with the other standing as the game-winner versus Salisbury.
Junior Julia Webb scored her first career goal in the 88th minute with a blast from 32-yards out that sailed over the goalkeeper and hit the crossbar and down.
In the 89th minute, Webb kicked a ball into the box that bounced over the head of Hutchinson and through her hands. Freshman Katie Maher ran onto the ball but two of Alvernia's players kicked the ball into the net for an own goal.
Despite not needing to record any saves, junior Tiffany McKee picked up her 25th win and 13th career shutout. It is also her fifth shutout of the season.
The Mustangs outshot Alvernia, 20-4 while recording all three corner kicks.
In pregame ceremonies, the team honored seniors Jordan Porretto, Alexis Siejack and Jessica Demko.
Stevenson returns to action on Wednesday, October 26 when the Mustangs travel to Lebanon Valley for a MAC Commonwealth contest beginning at 3:30 p.m.
