Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's soccer senior Michael Tringali recorded his 100th save this season but the Mustangs fell to ninth-ranked Messiah, 2-0 in a MAC Commonwealth contest Wednesday evening at Mustang Stadium.
The Mustangs (3-10-3, 2-3 MAC Commonwealth) have never beaten Messiah in five tries with the Falcons being ranked in four of those meetings. In three of the contests, Messiah has been ranked in the top-three.
With the loss, Stevenson still sits one point out of the fifth and final spot for the MAC Commonwealth playoffs.
The Falcons (12-0-3, 5-0 MAC Commonwealth) dominated the opening half, outshooting Stevenson, 14-0 in the first 45 minutes. Jacob Bender gave the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute as he quickly changed directions off a pass from Colby Thomas before striking a left-footed shot that hit off the crossbar and down.
Early in the second half, Tringali came up with an acrobatic save to keep the game scoreless while also tallying his 100th save of the season. He becomes just the fifth goalkeeper to accomplish that feat and is the first to do so since 2009.
With seven saves in the contest, Tringali now has 105 saves on the season, which ranks him third in program history.
The hosts recorded their first shot of the game in the opening minutes of the second half, a shot that sailed high by freshman Aleem Mirza.
Zack Bosshard thought he doubled the visitors lead in the 73rd minute as his header off a cross in the six-yard box went in, but he was whistled offsides.
Stevenson's best scoring opportunity came with 10 minutes remaining, when they Mustangs had a free kick from right outside of the box. The kick from freshman DR Medtart found the head of sophomore Colin Horne, but it sailed over the cross bar.
Bender tallied his second of the night in the 87th minute as he was able to create space and rip another left-footed shot outside of the 18-yard box that curved inside the post.
The Falcons outshot the Mustangs, 22-2 and held a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, October 22 when the Mustangs host MAC Commonwealth opponent Alvernia in their regular season home finale. In pregame ceremonies, the team will honor its three seniors, Tringali, Lorenzo Wright and Kelvin Adomako.
