Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's soccer sophomore Kevin Benitez scored his third goal of the season but it wasn't enough to erase a 4-0 deficit as Arcadia defeated the Mustangs, 4-1 in a MAC Commonwealth contest Saturday afternoon at Mustang Stadium.
It was just the second loss in the last six games for the Mustangs (3-9-3, 2-2 MAC Commonwealth) who currently sit in fifth place in the MAC Commonwealth standings with teams still to play tonight.
Manny Camacho put the Crusaders (8-4-2, 2-2-1 MAC Commonwealth) on the board with an eighth minute goal that floated over the outstretched hands of senior goalkeeper Michael Tringali. The ball was shot to the far left post from just outside of the box.
Tringali finished with four saves and moves to just two away from 100 saves this season becoming the sixth goalkeeper in program history to total 100 saves in a single season.
The visitors doubled their lead just 47 seconds into the second half as Bradley McKim centered a pass to the top of the six-yard box for Ricardo Margolles who beat his defender and flicked the ball with the outside of his foot for the score.
Pat Hartman scored two unassisted tallies in a 7:57 span late in the second half to put the Crusaders up 4-0. But Benitiez helped Stevenson avoid the shutout with his 87th minute tally and he put away a loose ball in the box.
Arcadia outshot the Mustangs, 14-11 while also holding a 7-6 edge in corner kicks.
Stevenson returns to action on Wednesday, October 19 when the Mustangs host No. 12 Messiah in a MAC Commonwealth contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
