Mustangs and Catholic Battle to Scoreless Double Overtime Tie

Box Score

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's soccer senior Michael Tringali totaled at least seven saves for the eighth time this season as the Mustangs battled Catholic to a scoreless double overtime tie Wednesday evening at Mustang Stadium.

The Mustangs (3-8-3) are unbeaten in five of their last six games. It was also the fourth overtime game for Stevenson this season and second straight. Two of those games have been scoreless double overtime draws.

The opening half belonged to the Cardinals (6-7-1) as they outshot the hosts, 7-2. Four of those seven shots were on framed but were all knocked away by Tringali. The Mustangs had the only corner kick of the half with 35 seconds remaining but could not get a shot off.

A more statistically even second half saw Catholic with a slight 8-7 edge in shots while both teams totaled three corner kicks. But neither team could find the back of the net as Tringali and Zachery Tashjy both recorded three saves.

Junior Scott Dorman finished with a team-high four shots.

The Mustangs recorded both shots in the two overtime periods but neither were on frame. The Cardinals finished with a 15-11 advantage in shots and a 7-6 edge in corner kicks.

Tringali has totaled 94 saves through 14 games this season and is just six saves shy of becoming the sixth goalkeeper in program history to total 100 saves in a single season.

Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, October 15 when the Mustangs host a MAC Commonwealth contest versus Arcadia beginning at 4:00 p.m.
