Box Score CHESTER, Pa. - Sparked by the first career goal by freshman Brianna Christie, the Stevenson women's soccer team posted a 3-0 victory over Widener in the MAC Commonwealth opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.
The Mustangs (4-4-1, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth) have won four consecutive conference openers and improve to 5-1 all-time versus Widener with the only loss coming in 2003. Stevenson has outscored the Pride, 11-1 in five conference meetings since joining the league in 2012.
The visitors came out firing right away, putting the first shot on frame just 1:22 into the contest. Stevenson recorded the first four shots, all coming in the opening 8:25, with two of those shots on goal. The Mustangs outshot Widener, 17-3, in the opening half.
After back-to-back shots by senior Alexis Siejack and freshman Juliana Portera, which hit the crossbar and were saved, respectively, Christie found the back of the net to give Stevenson a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute. Freshman Alayna Roesener added her second assist of the year.
Just 5:35 into the second half, senior Jordan Porretto found the back of the net for the first time this season after knocking it off one of the Widener defenders and in following the sixth corner kick by junior Brittney Celano.
For the third time this season, the Mustangs scored off a corner kick by Celano as junior Kailee Ziegler scored her second header off a corner kick.
Junior Tiffany McKee posted her 10th career shutout with three saves on the day and moves into a two-way tie for second all-time with 22 wins.
The Mustangs outshot the Pride, 28-7, their highest shot total since September 5, 2015 when they recorded 35 in a win over Eastern Mennonite.
Stevenson returns to action on Tuesday, October 4 when the Mustangs host a MAC Commonwealth contest versus Hood beginning at 7:00 p.m.
