Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's soccer senior Reid Hawkins scored twice but Lancaster Bible scored with 24 seconds left in regulation as the Mustangs dropped a heartbreaker, 3-2, Tuesday evening at Mustang Stadium.
It is the first time the Mustangs (1-3) fell to Lancaster Bible in six all-time matches and just the first time the Chargers have scored more than one goal. In the previous six matches, Stevenson had outscored the Chargers, 29-2.
Justin Stoltzfus gave the Chargers (1-0-1) an early lead with an unassisted goal in the 11th minute after collecting the ball on a deflection off a Stevenson defender.
Hawkins knotted the game at 1-1 with a penalty kick in the 58th minutes after freshman Iliyas Mirza drew a foul in the box. Hawkins is 2-for-2 on penalty kicks this season.
Less than 10 minutes later, sophomore Andrew Catalana played a ball into the box from 30 yards out finding Hawkins on the far post. Hawkins headed in his second goal of the game for his first multi-goal game of his career. It was also the third goal of the season for Hawkins who has already tied his career-high for goals in a season.
Lancaster Bible drew a penalty kick of its own in the 74th minute, which Edward Bills placed to the top right corner to level the game at 2-2.
The Mustangs nearly retook the lead in the 86th minute but Mirza's shot was blocked off the line before Hawkins shot was saved by Josue Bosque.
With time running out, Bills was able to create space for Josiah Groff who snuck behind Stevenson's defense and beat senior goalkeeper Ryan Callinan to the far post.
The Mustangs outshot Lancaster Bible, 16-12, including 12-7 in the second half while also holding a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, September 12 when the Mustangs travel to St. Joseph's (L.I.) for the Gary Smith Invitational Tournament. Stevenson will face FDU-Florham on Saturday, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
