Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - A day after attempting 35 shots, the Stevenson women's soccer team managed just five as the Mustangs fell to Washington & Lee, 2-1, in the first meeting between the two schools Sunday afternoon at SU Soccer Complex on the campus of Salisbury University.
The five shots were the lowest for the Mustangs (2-1) since attempting just two in a 3-0 loss versus Misericordia on Sept. 13, 2014. It is the 15th-straight game however, that Stevenson has scored at least one goal.
The Generals (2-0) took a 2-0 lead after scoring back-to-back goals in a 2:05 span with Tricia Jessee setting up both scores. Katie Pettit put Washington & Lee on the board first after collecting a cross into the middle of the box from Jessee before Caroline Peters doubled the lead with a header in the 25th minute.
However, just 53 seconds later, sophomore Kellen Wittman cut Stevenson's deficit to just one after scoring on a free kick from the left side of the box. Wittman, who led the Mustangs with eight goals this season, has totaled two in the first three games this year.
The second half saw a combined six shots between the two teams, with four of them on goal. The final Stevenson shot came in the 66th minute, but the shot by sophomore Brittney Celano was saved by Addie Healy, who recorded two saves.
Washington & Lee held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks, including 6-2 in the second half.
Stevenson returns to action on Wednesday, September 9 when the Mustangs host a non-conference contest versus Gettysburg. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
